Business grows through in-store and online sales

At Home Design spent three years on Highway 30 in Denison, but has now moved to a new location at 105 South 7th Street.

Dave Peterson and his daughter, Elizabeth Raymie, are co-owners of the business. Dave and Elizabeth handle day-to-day operations while his wife and mother, Peggy, do most of the decorating.

“We started with antiques and have grown; it’s antiques and retro and we bought stores with all the new stuff,” Dave said. “It changes all the time.”

At Home Design also offers repair and refinishing services.

“Anything that has wood in it – from 60-year-old chairs that have the glue coming off and falling apart, to stripping something and staining it,” Dave said.

Elizabeth takes on wood projects that require different painting methods.

The company will eventually offer caning services, but it’s not quite ready yet.

“We did a few things for ourselves to try to figure out the process because I don’t think there’s anyone in the area doing this to restore old parts,” he said.

The Petersons moved to the new location for more space — and because their location on Interstate 30, directly across from the Verizon store, had a very steep driveway that didn’t have much room to park.

“Our first year there, someone pulled up and their car slid on Highway 30,” Dave said.

They moved their inventory in October of last year and opened in the new location on November 1.

The new location has just over 4,000 square feet of space which includes room for a front display area, shelving area for small items and ample storage space.

“The big thing we hear when people first come is that they’re surprised at the variety of things we have,” he said.

“We have brand new stuff, really old stuff from the 1800s, modern stuff, newer stuff, and retro stuff. You name it, we have it.

Their physical location is one of the many ways they sell items.

They sell online at, which cannot be searched by the seller.

“You can search for sales within 50 miles of Denison and At Home Design will show up,” Dave explained.

On eBay they sell under the name dapete49.

“Denison has been great with us, but if we had sold to Denison, we wouldn’t have grown as much as we have,” Dave said.

They are working on an online store for At Home Design which will soon be another avenue of sales, he said.
