Residents of CRAVEN and Harrogate are being urged to sign up for free home and farm safety upgrades under a scheme backed by North Yorkshire Police Crime and Fire Commissioner Zoe Metcalfe.
The scheme, an extension of the Protect Your Home scheme, opened on August 30 and £719,590 is being invested to prevent burglaries and protect individuals, families and businesses at more than 1,000 homes and 90 farms along the borders of the district of Craven and the borough of Harrogate with West Yorkshire.
Commissioner Zoë Metcalfe said: ‘I encourage anyone in the Craven District and Borough of Harrogate who is eligible for the scheme to apply now and take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to protect your family, home and your community.
“The investigation and security upgrades are supported by police, councils and crime prevention partners, providing practical advice and using the latest technology, such as RING video doorbells, aim to keep burglars away. .
“Burglary can leave people feeling vulnerable, scared and distressed, the best way to deter criminals from across the community is for as many residents as possible to sign up and make their properties safer, so sign up early. as possible.”
Following a security survey, upgrades will include: new locks for vulnerable doors, windows, garages and sheds, and alarm systems for farms and smallholdings. For homes with suitable Wi-Fi coverage, the program also includes a RING video doorbell.
Chief Constable Lisa Winward said: ‘We absolutely recognize the harm, both financial and emotional, that a burglary can have, and we continue to seek out as many ways as possible to help reduce this type of crime.
“The investment in automatic license plate recognition is a big step towards improving our ability to detect and disrupt criminal activity in the region.
“In addition, we re-launched our rural task force late last year with the aim of increasing intelligence-led operations in partnership with border forces, specialist operations and local police teams, targeting identified high-risk offenders and organized criminal groups”.

Eligible residents will receive an enrollment packet in the mail within the next six weeks.
