Roku, the best-known brand for TV streaming, has announced that it will launch a new suite of home products. With these new products, Roku will become a smart home technology company.
Seeking to expand its current offerings, Roku has created a new collection of affordable products to turn your home into a smart home. The company says its initial smart home offerings will include:
- Floodlight cameras
- Indoor and outdoor cameras
- 360 degree indoor camera
- Video doorbell and chime
- Smart bulbs (white and color)
- Smart light strips
- Indoor and outdoor smart plugs
Roku says that at launch, these devices will integrate with its Roku TV operating system. This means users can see who is at their front door from their TV. This will also allow users to view live feeds from their Roku cameras. Additionally, the devices will be compatible with third-party voice integrations in addition to Roku’s own voice control system.
To distribute the new line of smart home products, Roku has partnered with Walmart to sell the items exclusively. “Diversifying into the smart home category is a natural extension of our business, and we’re proud to partner with Walmart to make the experience simple and affordable,” said Mustafa Ozgen, president of devices at Roku.
Roku’s new cameras will start at under $27, with the cheapest option being the Roku Indoor Camera SE – 1 Pack at $26.99. Video doorbell options will start at $79.99, lights at $17.99, and smart plug at $13.99. Select products are available now on Roku’s website and Walmart’s website, but will arrive in physical Walmart stores on October 17.
